We are happy to announce that we have launched a Kickstarter campaign to reissue L.S. Underground’s classic rock opera The Grape Prophet on vinyl for the first time! Please join us in contributing to the campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lostinohio/the-grape-prophet.
Michael Knott is one of our favorite artists. Ever the prolific songwriter, he has released dozens of albums over the past four decades. The Grape Prophet stands out as one of the true classics, representing Knott’s band L.S. Underground at their apex. It was the first of three rock operas from Knott, telling the story of Ellis, an orange picker who is sent by his boss Col. Peckesen to rescue his fellow pickers from the clutches of the Grape Prophet, who has lured them away. Both sonically and lyrically, the album was a revelation and has remained a favorite of fans and critics ever since.
Originally released on Knott’s own Blonde Vinyl Records, the album has been out of print for over 25 years. We plan to remedy that! We are working with Adam Boose to remaster the entire album. (He has worked with great bands like Guided By Voices, Joy Electric, CUSH and Brandston.) Knott and collaborator Rick McDonough will also be going back into the studio to record acoustic renditions of two of the fan favorites: “Ellis in the Orchard” and “She Said”.
We will be releasing this on vinyl, available in both Orange and Grape colors. The new acoustic tracks will be included as a bonus 7″. A deluxe edition CD will include the original and acoustic tracks as well, and digital download options will also be available.
Help us make this a reality for all of those who love this amazing album by visiting our Kickstarter page and adding your pledge!
