Fluffy began as a raw L.A. punk outfit before evolving into an experimental, genre-blurring force. Formed as a side project of members from Breakfast With Amy, their early sound was brash and unfiltered. Their second album, Go, Fluffy, Go!, saw them dive into heavier, sludgier post-punk, drawing from Melvins and Nirvana’s Bleach era. But it was Sugar Pistol (1995) that fully broke the mold.
A split-brain record made by two versions of Fluffy—one in California, one in Nashville—it juxtaposed grimy, distorted punk with ethereal shoegaze. Contributions from Steve Hindalong, Jason Martin, and Ronnie Martin infused it with dreamlike textures. Despite its daring approach, Sugar Pistol vanished after a name dispute with a UK band, resurfacing as a Duraluxe album.
Lost in Ohio restored Fluffy’s legacy with reissues of Go, Fluffy, Go! and Sugar Pistol, remastered by guitarist Chris Colbert. These albums capture the band’s fearless creativity—music that never fit neatly in a box but remains as compelling as ever.
