Led by multi-instrumentalist Ryan Lum and vocalist Suzanne Perry, the duo crafted lush, hypnotic soundscapes, with shimmering guitars, haunting melodies, and intricate textures that set them apart in the darkwave and shoegaze underground.

Their 1992 debut Idylls introduced their delicate, reverb-drenched style, which evolved across four acclaimed albums, culminating in 1998’s Flux, where breakbeats and electronic elements fused with their signature dreamlike atmospheres. Though they rarely performed live, their music found a devoted following, appearing on over two dozen compilations and even making its way onto Dawson’s Creek.

While Lum continued under the moniker Lovespirals, and Perry later formed Melodyguild, Love Spirals Downwards remains a cornerstone of the ethereal genre. Their catalog endures through remastered reissues, including Flux on limited-edition white vinyl—offering a fresh invitation to drift into their beautifully melancholic world.
