Watashi Wa
San Luis Obispo, CA
Watashi Wa began in the late ’90s as teenagers in San Luis Obispo, California, writing earnest, high-energy songs that felt bigger than their years. Blending the urgency of emo with the melodic instincts of pop-punk, they quickly found a home on Tooth & Nail Records and released The Love of Life in 2003—an emotionally open, spiritually searching album that struck a rare balance between polish and sincerity.
Fronted by Seth Roberts, the band dissolved shortly after the album’s release, but Roberts continued making music under various names, including Eager Seas and Lakes. Nearly two decades later, Watashi Wa reunited and released People! Like People! in 2022, a vibrant return that carried forward their signature optimism and melodic pull. Now active again and as reflective as ever, the band continues to evolve—still chasing connection, still writing with heart.
